Daylight Savings Ends
Another Halloween and Daylight Saving Time ends in the north yet again.
Despite the handy saying “Spring Forward, Fall Back”, people still get confused about the change. This is understandable as local time seems to skip an hour in Spring, and to repeat an hour in Autumn.
It’s easier to think of this, not as a change in time, but a change in time zone.
“Clocks in most European countries are turned back by 1 hour on October 27, 2019 at 01:00 UTC.” That is, at 01:00+0:00:
- in France, a clock changes from showing 03:00+2:00 to 02:00+1:00
- in UK, a a clock changes from showing 02:00+1:00 to 01:00+0:00
The European Union has (almost) decided to end Daylight Saving Time from 2021,
with some countries remaining on summer time and others on winter time.
